Facing Stress and Visualizing a Different Result

This week, the New Moon arrives on Thursday, July 19th at 12:24am EST. There's a New Moon cycle that happens every month, yet this New Moon is something special for me. It's a time to focus on what is desired for the month to come, to the time of the full moon when all is viewed in a new light.

There are changes happening in my life right now. I'm learning to release more in my role as a parent as my son grows older. I'm honoring the quiet times I'm spending alone, and living in gratitude for the times my son and I spend together. My business is evolving, with new people coming into my circle. I'm facing change in a new, wondrous way, instead of in fear and with stress.
It hasn't always been this way. One of the key reasons I'm passionate about helping people relax, relieve stress and reduce pain is that I was once someone who suffered from it. I lived in an urban environment, had a job with a high level of responsibility and expectations, and was a single parent with an active son, as well as family obligations, which added up to mounds of stress. What I learned about how to overcome stress, I'll share with you...

When you feel yourself acknowledge "I am under stress right now. Please don't bother me," stop. When your head is pounding and you are facing extreme stress at work or in your relationships, stop. When your children put you under so much stress you feel helpless and defeated, stop. Stress is one of the most commonly claimed ailments, related to physical, emotional and psychological issues. Let's try to understand it better and how to relieve some of the affects.

How is "Stress" defined? Pressure, strain, anxiety, worry etc. All those negative states that make living difficult are commonly termed as stress. Any time, when the loss of control goes beyond our capacity, we feel stressed. As far as we are in control, we are able to cope with it, and as soon as we begin losing control, we experience stress.

The worst part of stress is the common methods used to fight it. Smoking and alcohol are common stress busters. Even overeating for some of us is a stress buster. All these put more pressure on our mind and body and lead to diseases.

What are the easy ways to beat stress? Would getting away from the stressful situation for some help? Yes it can, and if we add an exercise of imagination where we imagine a relaxing situation and feeling, we can alleviate stress quickly.

Try this. Take 7 very deep breaths in ... and out, so that each breath in and out becomes slower and slower. Imagine your favorite relaxing scene, whether it's at the beach, in the mountains, by a river in a hammock - whatever it is for you - imagine it. Pay attention to the all of the details: the color of the sky, how many clouds, the shapes of the clouds, the temperature of the air, whether the sun is shining brightly or covered slightly or a lot by clouds, the scents in the air, whether there are birds and what types they are, etc. Become present in these moments of relaxing imagery.

Visualization helps many of us. If you also get some help with such an exercise, you will beat stress in the initial stage itself and keep your control with yourself. A very good method of reducing stress is listening to peaceful music and reading motivational text messages or affirmations. You can do that sitting right in front of your desktop with a good screensavers and wallpapers of motivation, living, daily thoughts, success thoughts etc.

Stress takes away control from us. When we take the control back, stress disappears. That can be done only if we are confident and relaxed. Visualization helps us achieve that state. This is a simple exercise. In my holistic practice, visualization is a tool to overcome many negative emotions and physical results of stressful lifestyles. Never take stress lightly. As soon as you find that stress is causing you more damage than you can cope up with, get professional help.
